Palantir builds software for data-driven operations and decision making. Their products often serve as the connective tissue between a company’s data, analytics capabilities and operational execution.

In February 2021, Palantir and IBM announced a new collaboration with the launch of Palantir for IBM® Cloud Pak® for Data, a next-generation platform for building AI applications. Palantir for IBM Cloud Pak for Data is designed to help simplify the creation and deployment of AI-infused applications, and helps users search, visualize and analyze all the data relevant for decision-making—regardless of where it’s scattered across hybrid cloud environments, and without the need for deep technical skills.

First, however, Palantir needed to determine how the solution would work, and how it would mitigate two of the major barriers to adopting AI for business: limited AI expertise and increasing data complexities. Palantir collaborated with IBM’s Hybrid Cloud Build Team to build a proof of concept that identified and unified the integration points between IBM Cloud Pak for Data,  a hybrid cloud data and AI platform running on Red Hat OpenShift, and Palantir Foundry, an interoperable and extensible data integration platform for accelerating end-to-end data transformation.

The IBM Hybrid Cloud Team was essential in helping us move very quickly…to get the right parts in place…and has been a great [collaborator] to us every step of the way…The speed, the quality of execution, the demeanor of the people we’ve been able to work with, has been excellent across the board.

Integrating data sources

In the solution, IBM Cloud Pak for Data integrates data sources of multiple types from across the hybrid cloud landscape and creates a single logical view. IBM Watson® Knowledge Catalog discovers and curates the data and generates a unified data asset which—when mapped to Palantir’s rich ontology—provides a view of the data that users can readily understand. Palantir Foundry runs scenarios and based on the data and IBM Watson Machine Learning, returns insights for use in business decisions or for operational workflows.

Palantir for IBM Cloud Pak for Data is designed for businesses that manage vast amounts of data—retail, finance and healthcare, for example—giving them the innovative ability to quickly create and deploy low-code/no-code AI applications that can infuse predictive, data-driven insights into real world decision making.

Our partnership with IBM combines our forces… and will propel the world’s most critical institutions into an unprecedented new digital age.
